A Long History of Rhosyfelin: For better or worse, the site at Craig Rhosyfelin, not far from Brynberian, has become a key archaeological site — which is rather interesting, given that there is not much archaeology there. The rocky spur is located just to the east of the very tight bend in the road. The initial dig site was between the two prominent mayflower trees and the rocky ridge.

[2] Cosmogenic nuclide (CN) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating are two well-established complimentary methods in Quaternary dating; they can be used to determine the age of different geological and archeological features. In general CN dating estimates the length of time that a rock has been exposed at or near the earth’s surface, while OSL dating is used to determine the time elapsed .

Applications[ edit ] Unlike other dating methods, which tell us how long it is since a rock was formed, cosmogenic surface dating tells us how long a rock has been exposed on the surface. In some cases, as when the rock is a lava flow , this amounts to the same thing. But there are other ways in which a rock can become exposed, as for example when a glacier erodes the sediment covering bedrock:

The Arizona AMS facility, one of three AMS facilities at U.S. academic institutions, specializes in radiocarbon (14C) dating of a variety of matrices including wood, sediments, natural waters, fossilized bone, coral skeletons and chemical precipitates (i.e. speleothems).

The Forbidden Knowledge of Secret Societies

Page 3 Nearly years later, in BC, still another cometary object smashed into the earth, this time in the eastern Mediterranean. The cataclysm caused by this cometary impact, with massive waves radiating outward in all directions from the location of the impact, devastated coastal civilizations all around the Mediterranean for example, Dead Sea levels rose feet at this time. While less destructive in a global sense than the seven cometary impacts of BC, the BC impact gave rise to a large number of flood myths, such as those associated with Sodom and Gomorrah, and Noah’s ark.

Following this catastrophic event, the oldest societies with written records – Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Indus Valley – emerged without any cultural antecedents. Seemingly out of nowhere there rapidly appeared a uniform code of laws, the wheel, and keen knowledge of astronomy.

The environment during the latest Pleistocene[ edit ] For an introduction to the radiocarbon dating techniques used by archaeologists and geologists, see radiocarbon dating. Emergence and submergence of Beringia[ edit ] Figure1. Submergence of the Beringian land bridge with post-Last Glacial Maximum LGM rise in eustatic sea level During the Wisconsin Glaciation , varying portions of the Earth’s water were stored as glacier ice. As water accumulated in glaciers, the volume of water in the oceans correspondingly decreased, resulting in lowering of global sea level.

The variation of sea level over time has been reconstructed using oxygen isotope analysis of deep sea cores, the dating of marine terraces, and high resolution oxygen isotope sampling from ocean basins and modern ice caps. Estimates of the final re-submergence of the Beringian land bridge based purely on present bathymetry of the Bering Strait and eustatic sea level curve place the event around 11, years BP Figure 1.

Ongoing research reconstructing Beringian paleogeography during deglaciation could change that estimate and possible earlier submergence could further constrain models of human migration into North America. By 21, years BP, and possibly thousands of years earlier, the Cordilleran and Laurentide ice sheets coalesced east of the Rocky Mountains, closing off a potential migration route into the center of North America. Coastal alpine glaciers and lobes of Cordilleran ice coalesced into piedmont glaciers that covered large stretches of the coastline as far south as Vancouver Island and formed an ice lobe across the Straits of Juan de Fuca by 15, 14C years BP 18, cal years BP.

Diverse, though not necessarily plentiful, megafaunas were present in those environments. Herb tundra dominated during the LGM, due to cold and dry conditions. The lowered sea level, and an isostatic bulge equilibrated with the depression beneath the Cordilleran Ice Sheet, exposed the continental shelf to form a coastal plain. The retreat was accelerated as sea levels rose and floated glacial termini.

Thursday, July 29, Read A megalithic monument, in archaeology, is a construction involving one or several roughly hewn stone slabs of great size; it is usually of prehistoric antiquity. These monuments are found in various parts of the world, but the best known and most numerous are concentrated in Western Europe, including Brittany, the British Isles, Iberia, South France, South Scandinavia, and North Germany, the highest concentration being at Great Britain.

Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales together accounts for hundreds of megalith and stone circle sites. Here is a collection of some of the more popular ones. The most famous megalith structure is the world is the Stonehenge in the English county of Wiltshire. Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones.

Cosmogenic isotope dating of tor surfaces cannot distinguish between modes of genesis but can indicate either the actual tor Tor denudation and emergence processes and rates exposure age (if relatively recent), or a denudation rate.

Readers of this site know well that I never post information without evidence nor providing information without authentic links. I forgot in the above case. That is also good in the sense that I have been able to get more information on the site and details.

Share A map showing the supposed extent of the Atlantean Empire. In these dialogues, a character named Critias claims that an island called Atlantis was swallowed by the sea about 9, years previously. According to the dialogues, this story was passed down to him through his grandfather, Dropides, who in turn got it from Solon , the famous Athenian lawmaker who got the story from an Egyptian sanctuary.

According to Plato, this Atlantic sea was itself surrounded by a land mass that was a continent “in the truest and fullest sense”. A 17th century artwork of Olof Rudbeck dissecting the world and revealing the secret location of Atlantis which he believed to be hidden in Sweden.

Earth is constantly bombarded with primary cosmic rays , high energy charged particles — mostly protons and alpha particles. These particles interact with atoms in atmospheric gases, producing a cascade of secondary particles that may in turn interact and reduce their energies in many reactions as they pass through the atmosphere. By the time the cosmic ray cascade reaches the surface of Earth it is primarily composed of neutrons.

In rock and other materials of similar density, most of the cosmic ray flux is absorbed within the first meter of exposed material in reactions that produce new isotopes called cosmogenic nuclides. At Earth’s surface most of these nuclides are produced by neutron spallation. Using certain cosmogenic radionuclides , scientists can date how long a particular surface has been exposed, how long a certain piece of material has been buried, or how quickly a location or drainage basin is eroding.

Description[ edit ] Qesem cave excavations, The cave exists in Turonian limestone in the western mountain ridge of Israel between the Samaria Hills and the Israeli coastal plain. Deposits at the site are 7. The upper forms a step on the lower one. The deposits contain stone tools and animal remains from the Acheulo-Yabrudian complex.

This a period that follows after the Acheulian but before the Mousterian. No traces of Mousterian occupation have been found. This led to two rescue excavations in At present the site is protected, covered and fenced and subject to on-going excavations. They are mainly blades end scrapers , burins , and naturally backed knives.

There are also flakes and hammerstones.

Some cosmic ray particles reach the surface of the earth and contribute to the natural background radiation environment. It was discovered about a decade ago that cosmic ray interaction with silica and oxygen in quartz produced measurable amounts of the isotopes Beryllium and Aluminium Researchers suggested that the accumulation of these isotopes within a rock surface could be used to establish how long that surface was exposed to the atmosphere.

Assuming a constant rate of production, the number of atoms of Be and Al that accumulate in a rock surface will be proportional to the length of time the rocks were exposed to cosmic ray bombardment and the respective rates of radioactive decay for each isotope.

Nuclear Catastrophe in Paleo Times in Ontario In ancient times there was a devastating nuclear explosion centered over Michigan just north of Detroit. Intense radiation bathed the whole area and the temperature during the blast raised the temperature over the area to over 1, degrees centigrade. This reset the cosmic clocks in the area now suggesting that this area was occupied by humans at least 30, years ago. This blast affected the whole region of the Eastern North America and may have been responsible for the extinction of the mega fauna of North America.

While the evidence is obvious there was huge blast over the area in about 10, BC the idea that it was a supernova that did not occur at the correct time as the paper suggests is incongruous with what would happen when a supernova irradiates the earth. When we are struck by blast from space it is funnelled down via the earth’s magnetic field and bathes the north and south pole with the energy. It is not likely that it would punch a hole in the field and then bathe the Great Lakes area with radiation.

In fact the Vela Supernova occurred around the same time as the blast, but the same problem prevails. Astronomically it would seem to have to be an event while high over head so that the entire area was affected, but close enough to blast a hole in the magnetic field. This is inconsistent with much older South American dates of around 32, yr B.

A guest feature by Subhashis Das. Many are being raised in the same manner since hoary antiquity. The name of the village Pathalgadda is a Hindi name for tribal megaliths. I have never seen a place quite like this… all this was conveyed to me by one young fellow in his late twenties, Jitendra Tewary. Jitendra who is a correspondent of a Hindi daily, and who also owns a studio, has discovered many megaliths around the region.

The megaliths are solely burial and memorial stones. The opposite facing tilted stones are inclined towards East and West The distinctive feature of the megaliths here is that many of the sepulchral stones can be seen placed inclining towards the west and to its opposite, a little to the left there would be another stone tilted towards the west.

Such stones are seen placed side-by-side creating a row with a north-south alignment the orientation of the dead in India.
